Lectures at the University of Minnesota

Posted on Oct 22, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

So far things are going well at the University of Minnesota. The design lecture seemed to connect with most of the students last night. During the Q&A time, students did not really question the weight of evidence for design which was presented. One student asked how I explained disease or when things don’t work as “designed.” My answer had to delve into the Biblical perspective: There was a creation with fabulous design, but there was a FALL by Adam and Eve leading to...

Northern Illinois University Ministry

Posted on Oct 20, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I recently finished speaking 5 nights to students at Northern Illinois University. I am now ministering to Minnesota universities and churches for a packed 2 weeks. Some nights at NIU we had really die-hard skeptics; yet other nights (Thursday), I had no verbal skeptic in the group. It seemed I was coming alongside to aide mostly Christian students. That is OK too. Two goals of AOI are to strengthen Christians and reach unbelievers. The first part is exactly what happened...

Missing my missing missionary ministry missus

Posted on Oct 15, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

This speaking trip to Northern Illinois University, I had to do by myself. That is because Mary Jo has really pitched in to help with a health crisis with my parents. My dad is back at home now after 24 days in the hospital and rehab after surgery. I was glad I was able to be there for the first 18 of those days before heading to the scheduled university speaking times. (My dad was emphatic about me not cancelling anything!) Anyhow, not having MJ right alongside me as my...

Coincidence or God-cidence ?

Posted on Oct 14, 2010 in Newsletter, Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

Do you believe in coincidences? I usually like to call them God-cidences. I was really up to my neck with things to do before the next speaking trip and needed to get the articles written quickly for the next issue of Think & Believe. The article I wanted to write to fit the flow of the issue was on the communications of honeybees. I made myself a note to begin doing research the next AM for some of the latest info on honeybee communication. Not having computer web...

Thanks Upon Thanks

I just read Lanny’s blog (yesterday’s titled-The Right Choice)  where he was thanking Mary Jo & I for the Creation seminar we conducted many years ago. That seminar caused him to re-evaluate and finally reject his atheism and later come on staff with us at AOI.  I am just wondering how many, young and old, have now gone to Lanny and Marilyn’s presentations on Creation, have had their faith in evolution or Atheism challenged, and like Lanny are now walking with the...

Fall Colors

Posted on Sep 29, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I think fall is my favorite time of the year. I love the cooler temperatures and the beautiful fall colors. I especially love to walk in the woods, delighting in the colors and smelling the fragrance. Here in our part of Colorado, there aren’t many hardwoods, so we don’t have the variety found in other parts of the country, but the aspens have a special beauty all their own. They turn a striking gold, sometimes highlighted with deep orange or red. Highlighted against the...

Spider silk

Posted on Sep 24, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I hate to admit it, but I just don’t like spiders. However, Mary Jo and I just got back to our house after being gone a week, and I found a nice spider web. Although I quickly got rid of it (and contemplated where the spider might appear), the web made me think of God’s amazing design. Spider silk is actually stronger than steel of the same diameter.  Spider silk is also extremely light. A strand of spider silk long enough to circle the world would weigh just slightly more...

Multiplied Fruits

I just received an email from a friend of AOI named Juan, who got excited about creation at one of our Creation Family Adventures, and then came to AOI for further training. Juan is now teaching Creation at a Spanish speaking church in Texas. He wrote:  “Wanted to share with you that last Sunday was the 3rd of 8 (maybe 10… depending on timing) sessions on Creation I am teaching for my Church’s Spanish congregation. It is a Genesis 1-3, Flood, Tower of Babel...

Blockhead Ants and Anonymous Authors

Posted on Sep 9, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I was Google-searching the web entries on blockhead ants when I found an article by an anonymous author entitled, “Lessons from the Ants.” I thought the article was pretty good and wanted to forward it a friend who is very interested in insects. It sounded vaguely familiar, but I didn’t think much about it. It wasn’t until I read the last line encouraging people to submit lessons they had learned from insects and other animals that I realized Mary Jo and I had written the...

Summit Ministries

Posted on Sep 3, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

We have just finished teaching creation to another group of students at Summit Ministries. We had three sessions plus an open forum with them. This is the last session of Summit this year. We are already looking forward to more groups next year. Whenever we have large (or small) groups of high-school and college-age students, we really enjoy being there. Pray that some of these students will be taking the information we just gave them to new levels and to places we will...

In Everything Give Thanks

Posted on Aug 31, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

Sometimes we struggle so hard to “find” God’s will for our lives, but often it’s easier than we think. I Thess. 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” We recently had an “opportunity” to practice this teaching when our refrigerator died just a day-and-a-half after our latest speaking trip. So (after some time to get over our initial frustration), we thank God:  That His love and care are constant despite the...

Beware of False Teachers

Posted on Aug 26, 2010 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

The Bible frequently warns believers to be on guard against false prophets and false teaching. Evolution is one of the most common and dangerous forms of false teaching which has permeated our schools, society, and even churches today. As we speak around the country, we run into many well-meaning Christians who have been led astray, thinking that evolution is science, and that it has been scientifically proven. They then try to find ways in which to “fit” evolution with the...
