We had shared some insights, a resource that made an argument for Design not Evolution, and had defined some terms. A skeptic responded with mockery, mixed with a little vulgarity in trying to be humorous. The skeptic made some claims, which were ultimately only their claims and opinions regarding our position.
THIS IS THE KEY PART WHEN RESPONDING TO OTHER VIEWS:
Learn to recognize claims/opinions from arguments supported by reason/evidence. Press them to support claims/opinions with reasoned arguments from evidence! Don’t let them or even yourself be satisfied with over-the-surface claims. I have been learning that asking questions is very important – Jesus asked questions – including when he asked questions before he answered questions from the scribes and Pharisees who were trying to trap him – he never actually answered their questions in certain cases.
Often leaving a skeptic with a question forces them to think more after the fact than trying to give them an answer – especially when they are not even listening to you.
