You might say that you would just have to stack up a lot of evidence and that scientific evidence would prove your conclusion. But in every case, you still have to have faith in the lab equipment working correctly and even that the laws of nature will continue to be constant as we would expect (for example, that gravity would not all of the sudden turn off – which is possible, because we can’t say that that is impossible). You may be able to get 99.9% sure of the truth, but ultimately you can never get to 100% sure. In court terms, we know that and thus say that a person is proven innocent or guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
