Here are the further details for the Canyonlands/Arches Field Trips.
If you will be staying at the group campsite with us, please pay the $15/person/night to us – we have already paid the money to reserve the site for the group. If you will be joining us for Friday night dinner ($5)and/or Saturday breakfast ($3), please pay us back for the food. We will be staying Fri & Sat nights at:

Packing List:
- Bring a tent (let us know if you don’t have one, we may have one to borrow)
- Sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and pillow
- Clothes – it could still be chilly so pack warm layers.
- Toiletries
- Lunches for both Friday and Saturday
- Personal Snacks
- Water Bottles
- Bugs Spray and Sunscreen
Tentative Schedule:
Day 1 – Canyonlands Geology Tour
Site 1 – We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Trail through Time trailhead near Mack, CO. Dinosaur Fossils are visible here at the location. -If you would like you could also meet us at the Arches Main Visitor’s Center at around 11:00 am.
Site 2 – We will stop to take observations of the canyon along Hwy 128.
Site 3 – We will stop at Island in the Sky Visitor’s Center to learn, explore, buy souvenirs, go to the bathroom, and even walk across the road from the visitor’s center to see the view to the East.
Site 4 – We will take a short hike to Upheaval Dome to enjoy the view and talk about this mysterious formation. Try not to read ahead about Upheaval Dome!
Site 5 – We will take the short path to an Amazing View – the Green River Overlook!
Site 6 – We will take the short path to another Amazing View – the Grand View Overlook!
Site 7 – We will take a short hike up to see the Mesa Arch and the view behind it!
Site 8 – We will head to our campground right south of Moab, UT to set up our tents and do dinner and a campfire together!
Day 2 – Arches Geology Tour
(Times are approximate.)

Site 2 – 9:30 – 10:30 – We will stop next at a parking area off of Kane Creek Road where we will do a short hike (around 45 minutes total) to some features.
Site 3 – 10:45 – 11:15 – We will stop at Arches Visitor’s Center to learn, explore, buy souvenirs, and go to the bathroom.
Site 4 – 11:15 – 12:00 – After entering Arches National Park, we will stop at a pullout for a viewpoint at the top of the hill.
Site 5 – 12:00 – 1:00 – At this stop, people will be free to explore Double Arch and the Windows Arches, which are short walks but those adventurous ones can walk further around them.
After Site 5, people are free to do what exploring they will want to do for the rest of the day. There are some great hikes (short or long) that people will be able to decide how much of a hike or what type of hike they might want to do.
Option 1 (Easy) – Go to the Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint for a short walk to see the Arch at a distance. The trail continues a little bit further for a closer view. This is how the National Park describes them “Lower Viewpoint is level and wheelchair-accessible; with a roundtrip distance of 200 ft (61 m). Upper Viewpoint is moderately strenuous: Roundtrip Distance: 0.5 mi (0.8 km) Time: 30-45 min Elevation Change: 171 ft (52 m)”
Option 2 (Moderate – Strenuous) – Go to the Delicate Arch Trailhead to hike right up to the Arch. (There is uphill involved. Roundtrip distance: 3 miles (4.8 km) Time: 2-3 hours)
Option 3 (Easy) – Go to the Devil’s Garden Trailhead for the Landscape Arch hike. (Roundtrip Distance: 1.8 mi (2.9 km) Time: 30-60 min Elevation Change: 40 ft (12 m))
Option 4 (Strenuous) – Go to the Devil’s Garden Trailhead for the hike to Landscape Arch and to Double O Arch! (Roundtrip just to Double O Arch: 4.0 miles (6.4 km), 2-3 hours.)
Last Site – We will head back to Moab, UT for a night out on the town and on to our accommodations!
