Manufacturing Body Parts
I was just given a link to information on amazing research that has been going on for quite a while. I had heard about portions of the research, but huge advancements have been made recently. The research involves making replacement body parts such as lungs, hearts, livers, kidneys, etc.
The video shows the results of a successful replacement transplant of a woman’s damaged windpipe using the patient’s own cells that were grown over a precise scaffold of protein. At this point, the scaffold for the replacement of extremely complex organs could come from several sources, including an animal such as a pig.
The key is that they dissolve all the tissue of the original organ, except for the extremely complex protein scaffold. Next, they grow new tissue on the scaffold using the patient’s own cells and produce a functioning replacement body part which is eventually transplanted into the patient.
By using the patient’s own cells over the scaffold, the body is not likely to reject the transplant.
A comment made by one of the researchers is that the new heart is not just a heart in a jar, but in an artificial body. “It is simple in many ways and it’s unbelievably complicated.”
Isn’t it amazing to think that so many college professors, and even researchers, can look at such evidence of God’s hand in Creation and still fail to see that it could not have happened by accident!
