Northern Lights in Minnesota

Between midnight and 1 AM Wednesday morning, Mary Jo & I were returning to Minneapolis from our university presentations at Duluth. God demonstrated his glory in a great display of northern lights. It was not just a single burst of light, but for many miles along the highway, the display illuminated 1/3 of the sky. The timing was great as this light show punctuated the conversation that we were having with the campus ministry leaders as we were driving. We all...

Population Estimates – A Major Problem for Evolution

Posted on Oct 1, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

When Mary Jo and I were at Northern Illinois University giving Creation programs, a student asked how it was even possible that the 8 people who got off the ark could have reproduced enough offspring to account for the population during the short duration from the Flood to the Exodus, led by Moses, out of Egypt. Actually there is no issue for Biblical timeframes, but instead, population studies pose a huge issue for evolutionary assumptions. Using the average...

“Biblical Rains” Flooding in Colorado

Posted on Sep 16, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

The flooding in eastern Colorado these last few days certainly has been a devastating event as you likely saw on the news for days and days. The amount of rain there was close to 18-20 inches. That is a whole lot considering that it was somewhere close to the annual precipitation amount and over twice what our hometown in Grand Junction gets in a year! A lot of rain, but I was amused by the headline in USA Today: “‘Biblical’ Rains Flood...

Massive Canyon Discovered

Frank Sherwin, a friend of mine serving at ICR, sent me a link to an interesting article. According to the online site, a canyon almost twice as long as the Grand Canyon has been discovered under the ice in Greenland by utilizing airborne radar data.  ( to read the article – Massive ‘Grand Canyon’ Found Hidden Beneath Greenland’s Ice ; here is another article with additional links and some quick thoughts from a different perspective – Grand Canyon Demoted...

Boot Camps 2014 !!

Posted on Aug 27, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

Many youth groups across this country are already in the midst of planning what they will do for the coming year, as well as next summer’s programs or trips. Let me make a suggestion: Plan on doing something that will help them stand firmly against the indoctrination that many of them are being exposed to in schools, museums, the media, etc. What I would specifically suggest is that you look into AOI’s 2014 Boot Camps, which are meant to fireproof a teen or college...

Creation in Kenya

Alan and Diane Galbraith are volunteers with AOI and do a wonderful job working with the children. They shared AOI Discover Creation Children’s Adventure with missionary friends who are working in Kenya. The photo shows the Kenyan people using some of the resources in that VBS package. As you can see, the adults are really getting into it – besides the kids! This VBS package was developed by Lanny and Marilyn Johnson, who have been doing a lot of VBS’s...

Biblical Reliability Confirmed Again

Posted on Aug 14, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

FoxNews.com (July 18, 2013) reported on an archaeological discovery which once again supports the existence of the Biblical King David as well as the reliability of the Biblical record. In the very region where King David (Israel’s second king, 1010-970 BC) killed Goliath, a 10,000 plus square foot palace has been discovered. The palace is thought to be one of King David’s palaces and dates to the Biblical timeframe of his reign in Israel. Why is this discovery...

Enjoying God’s Creation

Posted on Aug 6, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

Mary Jo & I recently taught a week long kid’s camp at Camp Shiloh in Wyoming. On the way back, we decided to spend the weekend in the Wind River Range in Wyoming, enjoying God’s Creation… which we had been preaching about that entire week. I hope you enjoy the shots. These “older vintage” hikers managed a 12 mile hike high into the wilderness the first day. As if that wasn’t enough, the next day we took a 5 mile hike to loosen up the sore muscles.  Those sore...

Water in a Dry Place

Posted on Jul 25, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

It was a fun, but challenging week at Camp Shiloh in Wyoming, teaching 45 kids, ages 6-16, from extremely diverse backgrounds. Some of the kids were from solid Christian homes and have been at camp every summer for many years. Others were there for the first time and came from extremely difficult home situations. In addition there are cultural differences, as about ¼ of the kids are Native Americans from a nearby reservation. The knowledge level and spiritual...

Why Doesn’t God . . . ?

Posted on Jul 23, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 2 comments

Atheists and agnostics contended with my blog, which honored God for clearing the smoke from the forest fire when we prayed. They asked why this God is interested in the smoke, but doesn’t seem to care enough to end poverty, disease, and hunger. To some of the committed atheists who I hear from, it becomes one excuse to claim that God doesn’t exist. There is a powerful concept that atheists have totally missed: God does care. Actually, God really showed that he cares...

Family Hits Road With Creation

Posted on Jul 17, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

After working so hard teaching and writing, it’s always good to know that your work is having an impact on the lives of others, and that they are taking the material learned from you and passing it on to others. Recently we received an encouraging testimony from a woman in Montana. She wrote:   Quite a few years ago [my husband] and I were at a marriage retreat in Colorado – over by Horn Creek at Hermit Basin. [We] were edified by the Creation Series. We have...

Smoke in Camp

Posted on Jul 10, 2013 in Nuttings from the Front | 4 comments

Mary Jo & I were recently conducting a Creation Action Boot Camp at Camp Redcloud. One day in each camp is set aside for an all day group activity – this time we chose a hike up 14,000+  foot Redcloud Peak. When we got there at the beginning of the week, a fire was raging on the other side of the ridge from Camp Redcloud. At least this ridge is the continental divide which has sufficient altitude to put it above tree line. This was a great barrier to keep us safe...
