“Thanks for staying all night and going to church with me this morning, Tommy.” Ron said to Tommy as they were walking to Ron’s house.
“Yeah, it’s been a blast, Ron, …but I have got to tell you, you’ve got some crazy people at your church!”
“What do you mean?”
“Well you know, that teacher was telling us about some big ol’ flood, and then your preacher talked about some guy named Adam and his wife Eve talking to a snake!” Tommy laughed.
“What’s so funny about that, Tommy?” Ron asked.
“Get real! They acted like they believed that stuff!”
“So you don’t believe in Adam and Eve or Noah’s Flood?”
“Those are just stories, man,” Tommy laughed.
“Where did you get that idea, Tommy?”
“Well, in my church they teach that the Old Testament is just a bunch of myths and stories,” said Tommy.
“Whoa! You mean that you don’t believe the Book of Genesis or the Old Testament, Tommy?”
“Nah. Our preacher says that those were just stories written by men to show us how to act and behave, and that they didn’t actually happen,”
“Tommy, if you don’t believe in Genesis, then what do you believe?”
“I just believe in Jesus and the New Testament.”
“Tommy, let’s sit down here a minute, because I want to show you something,”
As they found a place to sit, Ron opened up his Bible.
“Look here, Tommy, in the back of my Bible is a list that shows people in the New Testament quoted the Book of Genesis at least 200 times! They believed that Genesis was true!”
“Hmmm, I didn’t know that. But wait, Ron, the Old Testament was written by men!”
“Yeah, but look….here is a verse from the New Testament that I learned in Vacation Bible School this summer…it’s here in II Timothy, chapter 3, verse 15…’All scripture is given by inspiration of God, …’. In other words, Tommy, God inspired or showed men what to write, so all of the Bible is actually God’s word!”
Tommy was quiet as Ron gently continued, “Take a look at these verses that I have highlighted. These are the words of Jesus where he talked about the Book of Genesis. He quotes from Genesis 25 times! He spoke about Creation, sin, Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses, Jonah, and others as real people and things that actually happened. Jesus believed in the Old Testament! You see, if you think that Genesis is not true, how can Jesus or what he said be true? If Genesis is not true, then man’s sin must not be true. If that’s true, then why did Jesus have to die on the cross to save us from our sins? The Old Testament is as much a part of Jesus as the New Testament. We need to believe all of the Bible to believe completely in Jesus!”
“Well maybe, but in school they teach us about evolution, and the Bible sure doesn’t fit with that!” exclaimed Tommy.
“Yeah I know. In fact my whole family used to believe in that evolution stuff too, but then a friend of ours invited us to go to a program all about Creation. Some scientists showed the adults and us kids some neat stuff about what is wrong with evolution. They taught us lots of things that show that the Bible is true just as it is written!”
“So you really believe in all of the Bible, Ron – you know, Creation and everything?”
“Sure do, Tommy. After what we learned and studied, my family moved to a church that teaches the entire Bible as truth. Hey, we’ve got a whole bunch of books and videos at home that teach all about Creation. Come on, I’ll show you some of them!”
After lunch, Ron and Tommy sat down and looked through some of the Creation books Ron had talked about earlier.
After a while, Tommy asked, “Wow, there’s some neat stuff here that I sure didn’t know about. Do you think I could borrow a couple of these books to read and show my parents?”
“You ‘betcha,’ and here are some videos that are great, too,” Ron said.
“Do you think that maybe I could go to church with you again next week?” asked Tommy.
Ron just grinned real big and nodded, “You ‘betcha.’”
